Finding the Right Defense Lawyer for Your Needs
I know that many people who are in legal trouble for the first time simply start out by searching online for a “criminal attorney near me.” And while that’s a good way to start your search, it’s important to make sure you find the best defense lawyer for your specific situation. That means doing research beyond simply clicking on a few Vista criminal defense attorney websites to find out whether or not someone is actually worth hiring to represent you in your case.
True Dedication to Fighting for Your Best Results
I’m a tough negotiator and successful trial lawyer. Judges and prosecutors respect me because I fight hard to obtain the optimal result for my clients and do everything possible to protect their rights. In fact, I am so respected by my peers in the legal industry that I have been rated an AV-Preeminent attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, meaning I consistently demonstrate the highest level of excellence when it comes to legal experience, knowledge, judgement and communication. I also have a perfect 10 rating on AVVO thanks, in-part to endorsements I have received from fellow attorneys.
I guarantee the high quality of my work and my dedication to seeking the best outcome possible for each and every client under the facts and law. If you are a parent or grandparent, you can retain me to defend your child, of any age, if he or she has been arrested.
I have experience fighting all types of criminal charges and am well-seasoned in evaluating and presenting the right defenses for each of my clients based on their unique situations. When you meet with me, we’ll discuss what happened to you and how I can help ensure you the strongest possible defense based on the specifics of your case.
I Can Help You Every Step of the Way
I know the criminal process can be intimidating. I can help you navigate the complicated legal system from guiding you through the entire court case from start-to-finish by:
- arguing for reduced bail
- investigating your case to gather evidence on your behalf
- making court motions
- fighting on your behalf in trial or while negotiating a plea bargain
- working to minimize your sentence
- seeking out alternative sentencing options, such as community service, diversion programs or house arrest
In fact, as your Vista criminal defense lawyer, in most misdemeanor cases (with the exception of domestic violence charges) , I can represent you without you ever having to go to court. You won’t need to miss work or other activities for your arraignment or trial and can rely on my experience and dedication to ensure you will get the best possible results in your case.

My Past Experience as a Criminal Attorney
Over 35 Years Practicing Law
I graduated from the University of California, Berkeley Law School in 1983 and have been practicing law ever since. For 15 years, I served the public through the United Farm Worker’s Union and Legal Aid Society of San Diego, which is where I started working exclusively on criminal law in 1987, and the San Diego County Public Defender’s Office. While working as a public defender, I tried many murders and a death penalty case and worked my way up to serving as the Assistant Supervising Public Defender in the Vista office (meaning I was the second person in charge in that location).
My Private Practice Offices in Vista and San Diego
In 1998, I opened my own private practice, offering criminal defense services to adults and juveniles across the county from my office located right across the street from the North County San Diego courthouse. Throughout my 22 years as a Vista defense lawyer working in a solo practice, I have maintained this same office, serving clients in Oceanside, San Marcos, Escondido, Fallbrook, Rancho Bernardo and the rest of North County.
I have since added a second San Diego Criminal Law Office in Carmel Valley, serving clients in Del Mar, Solana Beach, Mira Mesa and Central and Northern San Diego. Many of my clients have been from neighboring counties in Southern California, but I have even represented many clients from out-of-state who have been charged with drunk driving or other crimes in California.
Dedication to the Law and the Community
I believe in America’s criminal justice system and the ideal that every person deserves the chance to fight the charges brought against them. I thoroughly review and edit all of the content in my blog, which has been ranked within the top 50 criminal law blogs on Feedburner for over 3 years.
In my spare time, I teach trial practice skills to other attorneys at the National Institute for Trial Advocacy and I strive to help my community by serving as President of San Diego Affordable Housing Advocates. When my schedule allows, I also enjoy biking, reading newspapers and traveling. As for my personal life, I am married and have two sons, both students at the University of California.
